The sole is the outer bottom of the shoe which is made of different layers and helps support the wearer.
Conversely insole is the inner bottom that offers comfort to the foot. A vast majority of footwear have an expendable insole which can be changed. The heel is a part of the sole it is conceivably the most integral part of the shoe as most women love the big heels because they offer confidence and more height.

The first selection is the pumps, they are a type where the entire foot is enclosed with the foot supported from the rear, front and sides. The sole is simply a single piece with either a high heel referred to as a stiletto or a normal heel. Another great selection is the open toe. This is basically a pump but the front is cut away to expose the toes. We have wedge shoes, they are normally high heeled but with no gap left underneath meaning that the sole touches the ground from the front to the rear.
Boots are an all time favorite, they completely cover the foot and can either be wedge, flat or heeled. We have several types of boots with the ankle high boot being the shortest one and reaches above the ankle, the knee high that stops before getting to the knee and finally the thigh high boots that covers the leg up to the thigh.
Mary Jane types are heeled or flat footwear which just like the pumps encloses the foot. The front however is very slightly rounded or square with a strap running across the central of the foot between the toes and the ankle. The mule types have a heel but lack support at the back of the shoe or around the ankle. They can be cut away at the front as a peep hole or open toe or can be entirely closed.
Another type of womens shoes are the sandals. Their sole can be flat, heeled or wedged and their upper part made up of straps. This simply means that most of the sides, top and toes are uncovered with the straps going way up towards the knee.
